We had a great stay at Levi's Beachside Guesthouse in Lamap. As the name suggests, it's right by the beach, and the accommodation is simple but clean and comfortable. The owner Mary and her son Camillo were very friendly and helpful. Mary cooked us some wonderful meals of fish and fresh vegetables, and Camillo arranged transportation for us to go north to Norsup. We only had a short stay here, but we'll remember their kindness for a long time.

One of our greatest experiences. A awesome village experience for our family with the whole village being very hospitable. Don't expect a western experience or facilities but you will be well looked after

Do this tour and you will see a passionate and energetic celebration of culture. The small nambas will show you how they dance and sing - which is joyful and very beautiful. You will also get a demonstration of crafting, cooking and fire making. I won't say too much more, this is something you have to see in person. I was too enthralled to take photos, but believe me it was very beautiful. I highly recommend you support these people to continue to practice their culture and keep their traditions alive.

Thanks to an amazing couple who own Nawori Sea View Bungalows, we had a fantastic time. Our Bungalow overlooked the water, we saw Dugongs swimming past, and the water is amazingly warm and clear. Lyn’s banana pancakes, so delicious as was her homemade coconut jam. Etienne went out of his way to share his customs, culture and locality. We definitely got more than we expected.
If you’re wanting a truely ‘local’ experience then I fully recommend a stay here with Etienne and Lyn.

The owner was away while we stayed 3 nights here but she was helpful in calling and organizing everything for us from Fiji (small nambas tour, cannibal site etc). We had Shila and her husband taking care of us while at the place, and she was super lovely, helpful and an amazing cook. Shared many stories and enjoyed dinners together.
There isn’t much close by, the town is walking distance but other than that you’re bit in the middle of nowhere. Which is what we expected. There is a beach walking distance too but after some others we’ve been to, it wasn’t quite the same. Neither was snorkeling. But for anyone looking to meet and spend some time with locals and enjoy the nature, Malekula is the place to be! Didnt see a single other tourist anywhere during our 3 day stay. And what you see in pics is what you get

Me and my husband stayed with Kalo and his family at the Malog Bungalows 22 Dec - 26 Dec 2019 as we were doing the multi-day canoeing trip. It was truly one of the best travel experiences that we ever had and we would highly recommend for people to visit!

Why was it so special?
- Total cultural immersion as we stayed with Kalo and his family for days in the village with very few tourists. Everyone we met were genuinely warm, nice and curious.
- Experience a completely different way of living, where villagers are still adopting a hunting and gathering lifestyle. For city people like us, it was incredible to experience this and realizing that Kalo's 8 year old sun was more equipped for survival than us.

Program / Itinerary: We did the 3 night 4 days canoeing tour. Kalo came to pick us up from the Lamap airport and we went by canoe to our first campsite in the Maskelyne island. Kalo, Abel (our guide) and the four boys (Kalo's two younger sons and their two cousins who were on their winter break) had already put up the tents and set it up. After breakfast we went out to do some snorkeling, spear fishing, papaya picking, coconut gathering as well as crab catching etc. We also cooked with the guys and enjoyed a beautiful meal with crab curry, grilled fish, lobster curry and snails as well as fresh fruit. The day after we went canoeing / sailing to two other islands and had lunch in small village. The villagers prepared a feast of local food that was delicious. Since it was Christmas we went back to Malog Bungalows, where we stayed for two nights. We still did a canoe trip to Turtle island (must do as it is a beautiful beach) and went snorkeling in the local clam conservatory.

Rooms: Very clean rooms at the Bungalow. Shared toilets and showers with fresh water (only cold).

Food: Delicious and fresh food mainly consisting of fish, seafood (we even got a newly catched lobster) and fresh fruits. Both Kalo and his wife are excellent cooks. They even made Lap lap when we asked for it (didn't realize it was such a process).

Getting here: We flew from Port Vila airport to Lamap airport with Air Vanuatu. There are two flights per week with a small 20 people plan - felt very safe as the pilots seemed top on things. We got to sit just behind the open cockpit so it was a great experience in itself. Usually you can get tickets online (recommend booking in advance) directly on Air Vanuatu's website. However, when we booked it seemed booked out online but we managed to get waitlist tickets through Trek Vanuatu. I think otherwise Kalo can help to arrange as well.

How to book: Browse Kalo's website and email them about availability. Flight tickets to be booked on Air Vanuatu's website or email Trek Vanuatu or Kalo.

Tip: Make sure to bring torches, coral shoes, plenty of mosquito spray and sunscreen, first aid kit. Kalo has snorkels and fins but I think bringing your own would be good to make sure that everything fits. We also bought some small gifts to the family and the school which was appreciated. We bought everything in Port Vila Supermarket.

Personal Information

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is a Pentecostal megachurch and denomination founded in Lagos, Nigeria. The General overseer (most senior pastor) is Enoch Adeboye, ordained in 1981. As of August, 2018, the RCCG has a presence in 200 countries of the world. The church in Lagos has an average church attendance of 100,000.

Sometime in the early 70s, Pa Akindayomi (the founder of R. C. C. G.) claimed that God had spoken to him about his successor. He claimed that The Lord told him that this man, who was not a member of the church then, would be a young educated man. Thus when a young university lecturer joined the church in 1973, Papa was able, as was claimed, to recognize him in the Spirit as the one that the Lord had spoken about in the past. This man, Enoch Adejare Adeboye who was then a lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Lagos soon became involved in the church. He became one of the interpreters translating Pa Akindayomi's sermons from Yoruba to English. He was ordained a pastor of the church in 1975.

As Papa was preparing to meet his Creator, he sent for Pastor Adeboye and spent several hours sharing with him details of the covenant and the plans of the Lord for the church. Even though a year before this, the Lord had revealed to Pastor Adeboye that he would be Papa's successor, it was still too difficult for him to fully contemplate such an awesome responsibility.

Pa Josiah Akindayomi was 71 years old when he died. Amidst controversy, Pastor Adeboye's appointment was formalized by the reading of Pa Akindayomi's sealed pronouncement after his burial.

Since 1981, an open explosion began with the number of parishes growing in leaps and bounds. At the last count, there are over 2000 parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria. On the International scene, the church is present in other African nations, including Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Zambia, Malawi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Gambia, Cameroon, and South Africa. In Europe the church is spread in England, Germany, and France. In the United States there are parishes in Dallas, Tallahassee, Houston, New York, Washington, Maryland, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Delaware, DC, New Jersey, Rhode Island, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Chicago, Georgia (in fact nearly all the states in the United State) and also in the Caribbean states of Haiti and Jamaica.

One of the well-known programs of the church is the Holy Ghost Service, an all night miracle service that holds on the first Friday of every month at the Redemption Camp at km. 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The Holy Ghost Service now holds in London quarterly and in other parts of the world. Another major service is the Holy Ghost congress which holds in the second week of December every year at the Redemption Camp.

Some of the said promises of the Lord to the RCCG are as follows: 1. That He will meet this Church on His return. 2. That this Church will become a model to the whole world. 3. That other Churches from all over the world would come to learn and worship in this Church.

If you like an adventure this is the place to go. The subsistence living, whilst basic, is not a starvation diet as the trees and roots provide plenty of food. The local culture is also fantastic with many kulture dances. My favourite place is Lanvitvit on the east coast of Malakula
