The Melanesian is a perfect choice of accommodation in vanuatu! The friendly staff are very welcoming and made us feel at home from the moment they opened the taxi door, with a casino, Italian restaurant, pool bar, tourist info store, car hire 50m away and shopping centre 200m away, we could not have chosen a more suitable stay than here!
To top it all off they have a cultural show and all you can eat BBQ every Sunday night from 6pm that was the perfect introduction to our island getaway. After the outstanding hospitality we have received here at the Melanesian we plan to return and possibly for good!

It's fine for a night or two but no lift so you'll need to carry your luggage up the stairs! Food pretty average.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Building needs a refresh. Breakfast was less than it could be.

Great location with a 10 min walk to the center of town. Guest service is wonderful and rooms were clean
Very helpful staff. Have stayed here before, and will stay again.

I've called at 11.30pm to ask to check-in as I was looking for an urgent accommodation for a two nights. They confirmed they had rooms available and they were waiting for me. I took a taxi, went there in 15 minutes, to find the door locked and no one answering the phone! In the middle of the night I had to find another place! Bad service

Beautiful staff, willing to help and make our stay as comfortable as possible.

If you want a quiet, relaxing stay then this is for you. If you’re like me and like to listen to your music on your speaker while on holiday then maybe this is not for you. Felt more comfortable going down to the beach front and playing my music. Island was very quite, not much movement than I expected.

Paid extra the night before we were leaving to check out late, no problem and transaction was done. Staff did not communicate and this caused issues in the morning demanding we leave. After raising concerns and requesting to speak to manager, things were resolved and they found info about late check out.

A part from that, staff are super friendly, restaurant has some amazing food and rooms were safe as to leave belongings in. Everywhere is walking distance and catching local bus is safe and cheap. Locals willing to help if they see your lost!

If you see a need and feel like blessing the staff, then do so. They were very grateful when gifting them things. May not be much for us but it’s much more to them.

The air conditioner was leaking and left water all over the floor, I reported it to house keeping twice and reception and nothing was done, they didn’t even put in a report that I spoke to them, we were getting extra towels constantly for the floor and on the last night I fell and ended up in hospital with two stitches, their medic charged me $1200 for a 2 minute drive and no help, we then had to walk back 10 minutes in the middle of the night to get back, I have been waiting for the owner to contact me for the last 2 and a half months and keep getting the run around, now apparently the owner is away until July

Stayed here as our flight was canceled. Very nice and comfortable. We were very tired after being stuck at the airport for hours. Room service food was excellent.

The foyer was being renovated, room was tired, terrible coffee and tea facilities in the room and the breakfast which was included was very basic and one toaster for all guests was hilarious. Whilst the pool area is nice there is no music and no bar / kiosk open. Unfortunately we had a faulty fridge in our room which took 2 days to get someone to come and look at it. This hotel is basic but you can walk to town.

Thank you very much to the staff at the Melanesian Hotel. I was angry and upset at the airline flying into Port Vila, but the hotel staff handled my attitude well and made me smile the moment I arrived. The room was very large, big kitchen and fridge, working air con and huge, comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast each morning was good. I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you Melanesian Hotel xx

Booked Melanesian Orchid room, beside the pool, for 2 nights, 7 & 8 July 2022
Flywire door not attached. Room not aired.during all of COVID lockdown? Towels old and scratchy. 2 old teabags. No coffee. No milk. No cold water. Fridge not turned on. Staff gave us a room upstairs, with flywire door attached. Exactly the same room conditions. Staff directed us to go down to a restaurant for milk; 300vt for a half glass or 800vt for 1 litre of long life milk! Not provided?
No beautiful breakfast outside, staff re painting the food benches. Delivered breakfast (at 8: 30pm) was 1 VitaBrit, several slices of mango, pineapple, half glass of milk for 2 ppl. So so disappointed. Nothing had been explained in emails, so paying $Aus165 per night for what? To make matters worse, on 9/7/2022, Melanesian debited $165 tentative booking for 27 July and though cancelled, I have not had it returned to me as yet (7/8/2022).
I acknowledge COVID has slowed things down but surely if Melanesian is not prepared for tourists, they should say so. I have stayed here 3 times on previous visits but never again. Sorry.

Came to this hotel for a workshop. Small meeting room with good internet connectivity. The food is so-so.

The staff were lovely. No internet connection in the room. We had to go into the foyer every time. To their credit they have a very relaxing section of their foyer. I would of preferred having access in the room.

Loved the hotel, rooms are really nice, i had a pool facing room with a balcony to enjoy the evening, a fully stocked bar, with cultural events happening on wednesday and friday nights along the pool side, that will give a native experience about Vanuatu, and the Casino 21 at the entrance of the hotel to try your luck!

Very helpful staff. They organized an amazing surprise for me and my fiance. It's definitely one of the best hotels in Port Vila!

It’s not a long flight from Melbourne to Port Vila (8 hours with a stopover in Brisbane) but once you get off the plane and the humidity hits you, it’s tiring.
A quick taxi ride 1800vt to the Melalnsian Port Vila Hotel and greeted by lovely people who checked me in quickly.
This isn’t a hotel with someone to open the door, automatic doors, lifts, escalators etc. However, someone will take your luggage to your room if you ask.
Up two flights of stairs and into my room which was lovely and nicer than I expected.
Located at the end of the complex meant it was quiet - ️. A niceish view over the pool - ️. Air conditioning that actually works - ️. Clean room with big bed - ️. Only downside was that the internet is dreadful. Whether you’re in your room or the foyer it’s just not good. But don’t worry, I found the whole mid Port Vila the same. If a restaurant said free wifi it can be either non existent or not bad - but never great.
The shower is over a bath, toiletries supplied, hair dryer, small safe, good hanging space for clothes, good sized luggage rack, tv with multiple channels with English speaking shows. Many of them are streamed from Australia. Outdoor deck area with two chairs and a table. Complimentary tea and coffee and drinks in the mini bar at mini bar prices.
The pool is large and very clean and there is a smaller pool nearby for kids.
Breakfast is on the Oasis level which is the pool level. It’s pretty basic but do remember it’s a 3 star hotel. You have a choice of pancakes, white bread for toast, baguettes that aren’t really baguettes, tiny croissants, pineapple or orange juice, tea or coffee, choice of three cereals, plus fresh fruit. It’s simple fare and will be a good start to your day. There is an option to have hot food such as eggs but that is an extra charge starting at 500vt.
The walk to ‘town’ or the market takes around 15 minutes at the most and it’s all downhill. There is a bus stop out the front and it’ll cost you around 100vt. Same on the return trip. Just look out for the vans that have a red B on their number plate and flag one down.
This place isn’t very wheelchair friendly and I met a couple both with walking sticks saying they’d struggled going to many of the well known places because it doesn’t accommodate anyone with a disability. Melanesian Port Vila is kid friendly but only saw two who were under 10 who never left the pool.
There is parking on site if you have a car.
At the front of the hotel is Casino 22 and you’ll have some free vouchers in your room to use there.
This isn’t beach front and has no views of the sea. But I’ll say it mention again, it’s 3 star and for that upmarket resort experience you’d need to pay considerably more. Ergo - this isn’t so much for honeymooners and more for regular travellers. Also met quite a few business people here.

The wait staff were friendly, reception staff could be a bit grumpy. There was mould and leaking water in my room. The rooms are very basic and in my opinion over priced.
